Eco-fedoras? Rewind that and play it again with Sonic Fabric!

December 8, 2010

Tomorrow night, I’m one of the featured designers in the Eco-Chic Fashion Show at the Element by Westin Hotel in Irving, Texas.  (Tooting my own horn here. 🙂  )  The show is presented by Dallas Greendrinks, the local chapter of a national organization that brings eco-minded people together once a month for a program and cocktails.

In the spirit of promoting green fashion, I am featuring these Sonic Fedoras made by Julio César NYC.

These limited edition hand-crafted fedoras are made of Sonic Fabric which is made from 51% polyester and 49% recycled cassette tapes.  You can even “play” the fabric by making your own Sonic Fabric reader!  The fabric is the brainchild of Alyce Santoro and was inspired by her childhood sailing experiences combined with Tibetan prayer flags and good karma.

Sonic Fabric is sold by DesignTex for use in upholstery and other applications (like hats!)  Some day when I can afford it, I have a feeling you’ll be seeing Sonic Fabric in some of my hats….

As always, please feel free to comment on this post below.  If you like what you see here, subscribe to this blog for more great millinery stuff!
