Millinery in the Movies / Hat of the Week Sketch

June 7, 2010

Aside from seeing hats everywhere I go, I can’t help but notice hats on t.v. and especially on the big screen.  As the 2010 summer blockbusters approach, my thoughts turn to movie mania over the years and the lasting impressions that some famous hats have made on the movie-going public.

For today’s Hat of the Week Sketch, I’ve chosen four famous examples of millinery in the movies – from characters who wouldn’t be complete without their signature hats (Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca and Harrison Ford in all the Indiana Jones movies), to scene-stealing hats that helped define the glamour and imagination of Hollywood (Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady and Vivien Leigh in Gone With the Wind).  From the simple to the sublime, Hollywood continues to capture our hearts and reinvent the way our favorite stars decorate their famous noggins.

So in the spirit of Summer, head to your local theater (yay for air conditioning!), grab some popcorn, and settle in for a bit of movie magic – and be sure to keep an eye out for the next generation of millinery, coming soon to a theater near you!

As always, please feel free to comment on this post below.  If you like what you see here, subscribe to this blog for more great millinery stuff!
