Hat of the Day Sketch – gold spoon bonnet, ca. 1860s

February 8, 2010

This glorious spoon bonnet, named for its high brim shape, was trimmed inside and out with flowers and tulle.  The chignon pouch at the back would have accommodated a lady’s bun and the chin sash would have kept it on her head in a strong wind.
